I had one of those conversations last night with a guy that I'm not-quite-dating, one of the kind of conversations where you basically lay out all the things you love, hope they agree, or at least don't violently disagree. A High Fidelity questionnaire type conversation.

It'd be easier if I could just hand any guy I was interested in, or vice versa, a package that contained all of this information, and tell him to get back to me in a month or so after he's had time to digest it. It's an interesting mental exercise to choose the books, movies, and music I'd put in such a package. I've talked extensively on here before about the books that I love above all others, but I'm not sure how many of them would go into the package.

What would you put in your package? What media do you reference enough to make required reading/viewing/listening? What's important that the people you love love too?

Here's a short, off the top of my head, list:

Books: Neal Stephenson, everything except Big U, especially Diamond Age and the Baroque Cycle--if you don't know what I'm talking about when I talk about Waterhouses and Shaftoes, we're doomed.
Watchmen
House of Leaves
Lolita
High Fidelity (I reference this book more or less constantly, and I am apparently the only person other than Elis who's read it)
Dracula

Gone with the Wind, in either book or film form

Movies: Hot Fuzz
The Departed
Reefer Madness (the musical)

TV: Season Two of the Office
Clone High

Music: Philip Glass's score to Koyaanisqatsi & Naqoyqatsi
Original Broadway recording of The Last Five Years (this is another thing I refer to a lot that very few people are familiar with)

So I'm talking with my old roommate about boys, and we've decided that a) any boy who can't see our awesomeness is not worth our time, even if b) we still kinda wish they liked us. And somehow that led into a trilogy of screenplays, entitled:

EVERYTHING YOU MISSED OUT ON, COCKSUCKER

STILL TOO GOOD FOR YOUR ASS

and

RICH AND YOUNG? WORKS FOR ME!

along with a TV miniseries titled "the answer's still no, but thanks for asking."

It will be like Sex and the City, but with a lot more drunken yelling.

It never took much convincing to make me believe in you

I was inspired by Elyse's goal post (sounds like football!) to do one of my own, so here are my goals for life, in no particular order:

* Get Graduates to a point where I could push HARD for it to be on prime time TV without any reservations. Then do that.

* Cure, or turn chronic, at least one form of cancer.

* Cover paper in Cell, Nature, or Science.

* Get to the bottom of this sex hormone effect on the cardiovascular system.

* Have someone fabulous dress me for the Nobel ceremony. I'm thinking de la Renta.

* Speak at the opening of the Superman museum in Cleveland.

* Tell Tina Fey and Jane Goodall, in person, how much their lives and successes have meant to me.

I'm weak when you miss me, when you roll me on your tongue
when you whisper me your best moves, I almost believe you

show me hurricanes

I have one ex coming in tonight and another one on my mind...

If there's anything you want
Come on back 'cause it's all still here
I'll be in the back room, drinking my half of the beer
And if you and me is so right
Why's it the same thing every night?

It's just a matter of time
It's almost measurable
Imagination ain't kind on us tonight

You're at your best when you got the guns turned a hundred and eighty degrees
And finding out if it adds all up right
We go through all the same lines, or sell out to appease
But go to sleep in a bed of lies
I've made my own more than once or twice

But now time is my time
Time is my own
And I feel so alive, yet feel so alone
'Cause you know you're the one and that that hasn't changed
Since you were nineteen and still in school waiting on the light on the corner by sound exchange
